CALIPERS — Cell-cycle-Aware Live-cell Imaging for Phenotyping Experiments and Regeneration Studies published in Nature Communications

Cell-cycle state is often an invisible source of variability in live-cell experiments. What if we could make it an explicit coordinate of the phenotype? We are delighted to share that the CALIPERS paper related to UNLOOC has now been completed and published in Nature Communications on 1st August 2026! Congrats to UNLOOC member Francesco Pasqualini, Associate Professor, University of Pavia and his peers for this work!

CALIPERS integrates:

  • FUCCIplex, a spectrally redesigned cell-cycle reporter that leaves the green and red channels available for structural and functional biosensors

  • FUCCIphase, open-source analysis that assigns each tracked cell a continuous biological timestamp

  • FUCCIsmart, adaptive imaging that triggers detailed acquisition around relevant cell-cycle events

  • Human stem-cell reporter lines and cardiac organoid models for following cell-cycle progression alongside structure, movement and calcium activity.
